Iain Steel honoured as new President of Winchester Musicals & Opera Society
4th January 2017
Iain Steel was honoured to become the new President of Winchester Musicals and Opera Society (WMOS) at the end of November 2016 during an induction by The Mayor of Winchester, Councillor Jane Rutter. He follows the excellent 6 year tenure of WMOS Honorary Member Brian Hurst.
Founded in 1912, WMOS has been providing theatrical entertainment to the local community for over 100 years. The Steel family involvement stretches back well over 50 years – as both Stanley Steel & Richard Steel were past Presidents having ‘trod the boards’ themselves. Iain is therefore the 3rd generation to support this local charity.
Over the past 28 years, Iain has been seen on the stage at The Guildhall and latterly at The Theatre Royal Winchester in roles including: Billy Bigelow (Carousel), Curly (Oklahoma), Camille (The Merry Widow), Bill Snibson (Me & My Girl), Pirate King (Pirates of Penzance), Lord Oakleigh (Anything Goes), MC (Oh What a Lovely War) and recently he stepped in to the role of Wild Bill Hickok in Calamity Jane, with only 7 weeks to go.
2017 sees WMOS perform ‘Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street’ from 17-20th May and ‘White Christmas’ from 15-18th November.
